The Bible Your Manual for a Healthy Body- Part IBack to Articles

There is only one way to know how to operate and maintain our very complex body system, and that is to consult the one who made it! Every product comes with its own operating manual. The manufacturer has the best operating manual for his products. God has given us his operating manual the Bible. It’s loaded with information on health and happiness, if followed will bring long life, peace and prosperity. Scientist are just now realizing how powerful its instructions are. They are just now discovering through research the importance of some of its health principles that have been available to man for thousands of years.

Archeologists discovered that 3000-year-old Egyptian mummies show the evidence of diabetes, atherosclerosis and many of the diseases we suffer from today. At that time the wealthy Egyptians had Hebrew and other Asiatic slaves to do their work, while they enjoyed a rich diet and the sedentary lifestyle of a couch potato. In Exodus 15:26(NKJV), there is a very intersting promise to God’s
people. It reads, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statues, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” In Deuteronomy 28:22,27, 28 is a listing of some of the diseases that will come upon God’s people if they do not heed His counsels: Consumption (TB), fever (any infectious disease), inflammation (arthritis, bursitis, cystitis, lupus etc), extreme burning (peptic ulcers, acid stomach), blasting, mildew, emerods (tumors), the scab and itch (skin diseases), madness (mental illness), blindness (diabetes etc.) and astonishment of heart.

The following are a few facts and health instructions you can find in the owner’s manual, the Bible.

1.Gen. 1: 29; 3:18 Fruits, nuts, grains and vegetables were the very first foods given to us by our creator. He knew what was best.

2.Gen. 5 lists the generations from Adam until the flood who all livedbetween 500-969 years. Their life span was very long. After the flood the life span drastically dropped with Abraham and his generation living under 120 years. Today our life expectancy is even shorter and research is showing that it relates directly to our lifestyle and diet. It is significant to note that the Bible has no record of man eating meat until after the flood.

3.Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14: 3-20 God gave detail instructions on meats, fish and poultry that were good for food and those that were not. The instructions given allowed the eating of beef, lamb, fish and some birds, but eliminated swine (pig meat) and meat eating carnivores, shell fish including conch, crab, lobster crawfish, shrimp and some birds. Scientist have found that most of these foods are high in cholesterol.

4.Leviticus 7:23, 26 God people were told not to eat the fat and blood of animals. Today we are encouraged to trim away the fat from the meats we eat and cut down on total fat intake in order to decrease our risk of heart disease and obesity. Today one can not purchase rare cooked meats in most restaurants because of the threat of salmonella poisoning.

5.Ecclesiastes 10:17 & Proverbs 23: 1-3 Excess can be deadly. Eating too much of even good foods is not good. We should practice moderation in every good thing.

6.Proverbs 20:1; 31:6; Isaiah 28:7 The Bible gives wise counsel about the use of alcoholic beverages. Alcohol depletes the body of important vitamins and minerals and destroys brain cells.

Today due to the disease in the animal population it is encreasingly becoming less safe to eat the flesh of dead animals. This is why thousands are choosing to go back to the original diet of fruits, nuts, grains and vegetables.

God is interested in the whole man, his physical, mental, social and spiritual well being. It is from God that we get the concept of a holistic lifestyle. God said in III John 2 “ Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
